Silicon Iron Anodes

Silicon iron anodes for cathodic protection

Tubular HSCI Anodes

For many decades, HSCI anodes have been used to protect buried and submerged structures against corrosion.
Such anodes can function effectively in a range of electrolytes, ranging from soil and freshwater to brackish and saltwater. A thin film of silicon dioxide should grow on its surface under normal conditions, protecting the anode from metal pitting and making it ideally suited for deep wells.

CP designers and engineers now know the tubular anode very well and it has become the most common anode for deep wells. The tubular anode has the following advantage over the stick anode:

  • More economicaldue to higher utilisation of anode weight, use approx. 85-90% of its mass weight while traditional stick anodes only use 60-70%.
  • l More surface area per kilogram which can reduce the anode current density.

Silicon iron is today the most widely used anode material in the world and has been used since 1912.The anode is a high-quality silicon anode where consumption isfurther reduced by adding 4.5% chromium. The anode is supplied with optional cable length, the cable is of the type XLPE / PVC 10mm² red. The connection point isolation is reinforced with shrink hose to withstand chlorine and sulphate attack.

The low resistivity of the silicon iron provides an even current density over the anode surface and minimizes so-called end effects. The fact that the anode is massive makes its properties notchange over its lifetime. The anode is brittle and requires careful handling as well as avoidanceof mechanical and thermal shocks. Always ensure good ventilation of the anode bed.The silicon anode exists in many sizes and are available upon request.

The anodes density is 7g/cm3. Please see table below:
