Corrosion Protection at Dock

Dock / Harbour

Leaving critical dock/harbor’s structures without adequate protection, can lead to serious corrosion damage and is a direct threat to a safe work environment. Since key harbor infrastructure often relies heavily on steel and often are placed on the frontline, they will be prone to corrosion as soon they’re installed. This will be avoided by installing an impressed current cathodic protection system.

Korrosionssgruppen has been supplying Design, material and installation for sheet pilings, pillars, boat ramps and many more for over 30 years.

We will make sure that you:

  • Proper documentation
  • Service and verification
  • Will have the proper design
  • Correct sacrificial anodes/Impressed current cathodic protection

Why Cathodic Protection in Harbours?

Using the right type of cathodic protection, will prolong and ultimately stop corrosion. This will not only justify the costs of protecting the sheet piling from corrosion. This will also eliminate any repairs related to corrosion. This means, no new sheet pilings to be installed for a very long time.

ICCP (Impressed Current Cathodic Protection)

How does ICCP work on sheet pilings or pier pillars?

Cathodic protection in ocean environments with a higher resistance, which is the case in some harbor’s, are often designed with an impressed current (rectifier) in addition to the anodes. This is due to the sacrificial anodes limited output.

Typical application method for metal sheet pilings or pillars

  • Flush mounted
  • Mounted on seabed ( if allowed, this method is preferable since it allows fewer anodes to protect a larger area)

Sacrificial Anodes

Simple yet powerful method to prevent corrosion on sheet pilings and pillars in harbor’s

How does a sacrificial anode system work in a harbor?

Cathodic protection with sacrificial anodes is designed as ICCP, in order to offer a complete protection against corrosion. Design life of these systems usually vary, 10-30 years are normal requirements.

Installing the sacrificial anodes usually requires a small team of divers, who water blasts the areas where the anode brackets are to be welded. Brackets and bolts are delivered after specification from Korrosionsgruppen AB.

Korrosionsgruppen can supply Design, anodes and a diver’s team for a complete installation, all the way from start to finish.

We Offer: Consultation, Projecting, Installation, Maintenance and Worldwide Cathodic Protection Material Shipping.
