ICCP - Water & Sewage

Corrosion Protection for Water & Sewage

Sewage treatment plans are often subdued to corrosion on reinforced concrete and transporting tubes or filtering equipment. This can easily be prevented with the right corrosion prevention methods.

Cathodic Protection with Impressed Current

How does impressed current protection work for sheet piles and pilings in harbors?

Cathodic protection in specific marine environments, such as harbors, is always designed based on individual cases. In some cases in Sweden, the water is highly brackish, resulting in much lower conductivity/higher resistance. This necessitates systems with impressed current rather than sacrificial anodes. Sacrificial anodes have a limited current capacity, whereas an impressed current system does not.
Typical installation for harbor protection:
  • Mounted directly on sheet piles

  • Mounted on the seabed (if permitted, allowing fewer anodes to protect a larger area)

Large Aluminium Anodes For Cathodic Protection in Harbour

Example: Impressed Current System in Harbor - Cathodic Protection

We have the capability to deliver custom solutions and adaptations when needed. Every project begins with a focus on the customer's requirements, and adjustments are made as necessary to meet specific demands. Below is an example of an impressed current system designed for harbor use:
  • Self-calibrating system with 0.1% accuracy or better
  • At least 100 MMO-powered anodes
  • System equipped with Bluetooth 4.0 or newer for app compatibility
  • Equipment for digital monitoring and control included
  • MMO-type anodes
  • Anode length of 100 cm or longer (total length including mounts)
  • The anode surface should be submerged 30-40 mm in the anode mount
  • At least 8 reference electrodes along the stretch
  • Anodes are placed in sheet pile cofferdams
  • Anodes and reference electrodes are UV-resistant and replaceable by divers
  • Built-in electronic relay with 30 A 70 VAC / 100 VDC or equivalent, compatible with an external relay of 100 A or equivalent
  • Cable suspension may be mounted in PE pipes secured to the underside of the concrete overlay
